It appears that Graded copies of STAR WARS #42 are selling at increased prices on ebay.
A CGC grade 9.6 Newsstand copy is being offered for $1,850. It seems the release of a
BOBA FETT movie is causing the demand. Glad I had some graded awhile back along with
some other STAR WARS issues...you never know what will become popular.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just watched an episode of THE PICKERS on the HISTORY CHANNEL and they ran across
a group of well read comics including BATMAN #44. They bought the entire group of
books for around $800.00. Happy to say I have a copy of #44 in much better shape
than the one shown...except for a small half inch piece missing from the bottom right
corner of the front cover.

Now that the Holiday rush is over at the Post Office I'll send in a few books to be graded by CBCS
including...

BATMAN COMICS #44

DETECTIVE COMICS #150

FEATURE BOOK #48

SUPER MAGICIAN Vol 5 No 8

WONDER WOMAN #28

...some of my favorites.

Happy belated New Year back Marty! Must have been fun to recognize an early Batman you have on Pickers. Yes, so many books jumping in price like Star Wars #42. Many of these books just languished in dollar bins for years. Good luck on the submissions! I have to wonder if that Super Magician is truly that scarce or if it's also the case that fewer people think to have that book slabbed, hhmm...

Hi Tommy...

I'm sure you're right about my SUPER MAGICIAN not being all that popular or in demand
but it is the last issue of the series and has a terrific cover. Bought it at the UNION NEWSSTAND
in the NEWARK TRAIN STATION years ago. Just one of those books that are a favorite of mine
and deserves to be preserved.

In deciding which books in my collection to encapsulate I settled on one for sure.
REAL FACT COMICS #5, this 1946 newsstand issue featured "THE TRUE STORY OF
BATMAN AND ROBIN...How A Big Time Comic Is Born." This telling story of how a
young BOB KANE created the BATMAN UNIVERSE. Finding this book on the
newsstand was an exciting event for me...it was the first time I had ever even
thought about comic book artists. Even though this book is in a very appreciated
condition I believe it's one I should preserve.

What a great nugget of comic history, thanks for sharing Marty! As long as I've been around I did not know this!

Thank you Tommy...happy to share.

Another cartoonist I was aware of at my early age, was ED WHEELAN whose ED WHEELAN'S
JOKE BOOK FEATURING FAT AND SLAT, that I picked of the newsstand in 1944, featured a
picture of the artist plus a brief introduction of the characters FAT AND SLAT that appeared
inside the front cover. This ALL AMERICAN COMIC had no number and I believe was a one-
shot.
A similar picture of ED WHEELAN and a brief introduction to FAT AND SLAT appeared in FAT
AND SLAT #1 a Summer 1947 publication from M. C. GAINES EC COMICS (AN ENTERING COMIC).

I'm trying to remember now if there were any others but nothing comes to mind right now.

Thanks Tommy... 77+ years after I picked them off the newsstand I'm pleased that they
still look so good...a lot of memories there.

Going through my collection to see what ones I will send off to CBCS for grading
I selected HEADLINE COMICS #16 which contains the Origin and First Appearance
of ATOMIC MAN which might be the first Atomic Superhero.
