Part of the fun in sorting through my collection of remainder comics is find characters
and stories I had forgotten over the years...characters like DOCTOR THIRTEEN, "THE
GHOST-BREAKER" featured in the later issues of STAR SPANGLED COMICS. In issue
number 126 he encounters the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA...really good story.

I would have to say that the highlight of my early collecting comics came back in 1947
when I was named one of the winners in the SHIELD G-MAN CLUB contest. There inside
of the front cover of PEP COMICS #60 was my name and address...WOW WHAT A THRILL!
I received my prize, a copy of PEP COMICS #62 a short time later.

Steve Borock from CBCS has joined MyComicShop as Senior Consignment Director...
who knows I might be able to receive some recognition for my collection.

In the current Comic Link auction there is a copy of SPIRIT #22 CGC graded at 7.0...
will be interested in seeing how much it sells for as my copy is CGC 6.5.
You do not see this book up for auction too often.

Just a mention that I have been collecting comics for 80 years!
My first comic bought off the newsstand is ALL WINNERS #4 graded a 3.0 by CGC.

There were so many popular titles on the newsstand to choose from, but I always
felt that from time to time it was fun to pick up a copy of an unknown title...
such a find was HEADLINE COMICS #16, Nov./Dec. 1945, published by American
Boys' Comics, Inc., 8 Lord Street, Buffalo, NY.

Re-Reading this book after so many years reminds me of how much enjoyment
comic books brought me back then.

First this issue contained the first appearance and origin of ATOMIC MAN...remember
this was 1945 and anything "ATOMIC" was new.

The back cover contained one of the early CHARLES ATLAS "97-pound weakling" ads.
The ad also contained a coupon for a FREE book "Everlasting Health and Strength".
There was a box to check if you were under 16 for BOOK A.

Another ad was for "LEARN HOW TO FLY" which offered an exciting Flying Game,
Flying Course and a DE LUXE PRE-FLIGHT TRAINER COCKPIT all for only $2.49 post paid.
I still have the "HOW TO FLY" course booklet.

Other stories included in this issue were BUCK SAUNDERS and "COWBOYS OF THE AIR",
WORLDBEATER and UUGGH, CARROTT TOP and the cover story featuring the JUNIOR
RANGERS.

Even today it's still a GREAT BUY for 10 cents!

With a dinosaur, a woman chained to a post and the FLASH racing onto the cover, how could
I not pickup off the newsstand a copy of FLASH COMICS #86? Then after 13 pages of exciting
FLASH action in the "STONE AGE MENACE, a TON OF FUN page, a WHEATIES ad, then a SAM SPADE
ad for WILDROOT CREAM OIL it's six pages of JOHNNY THUNDER introducing THE BLACK CANARY...
you never knew what you would find in a comic book!

While the Golden Age MUTT & JEFF COMICS have very little dollar value they
are truly historical characters. DC thought enough about them to feature them
in their own books and also featured them as filler in many of their popular titles.
Besides...they are funny!

MARVEL FAMILY #1 appears to be on the move value wise. HAKES Auction 3235 Session II
has a MARVEL FAMILY #1 with a starting bid of $5,000.00. NOSTOMANIA shows a CGC 5.0
valued at $12,900.00 and a 3.0 for $8,080.00.
Be interested to see what my CGC 3.0 copy (0188743003) would be valued at.
Could be the most valuable comic book in my collection.

Had a real surprise...planned on having a few of my books graded by CBCS and discovered
it would be $80.00 per book and 10 weeks for turn around. Looks like preservation of my
collection is on hold.

As preservation is the main reason I have had my books graded I wonder if
PGX COMICS might be the way to go. Their GOLDEN AGE grading is quoted
at $28.00 per book with an Express Grading fee(12 Business Days) for an
additional $6.00 per book.
Has anyone had an experience with this company?
