What's Cool?

I'm not sure why we didn't think of this before, but now that we're noting at the series level, which items are warm or hot, wouldn't you also want to know if an item is cooling (trending down)? We implemented this as a new feature for you this month. The algorithm behind the scenes is, for the moment, a bit rough but no worries we will toughen it up. Let's look at an example for how this will work. Say you are browsing the comic book title Brave and the Bold. Among the early issues, the Nostomania series-level table will appear like the image shown below. Along with the warm/hot issues in the 30s, why in the world would issues #28 and #29 appear as cool? Brave and the Bold #28 is the first Silver Age appearance of the Justice League of America! Wouldn't this book be considered not just hot, but red hot?

What's up with the Blue Flame?

Don't get us wrong - this is, of course a monster key Silver Age DC comic. Most comic collectors would love to own a nice copy. All we're saying here is the data we have hints at a drop in price. If you interrogate the pricing and sales trend chart (a snapshot is shown below), you'll see a couple of very interesting sales. In late 2017, a CGC VF/NM 9.0 copy sold for $77,675.00. That was pretty amazing. However, about a week ago, a CGC VF+ 8.5 copy sold for "only" $37,200.00. That's a big downward swing from that 9.0 sale - we'd expect an 8.5 to sell for less than a 9.0, but not by that much. Keep in mind this is a very small sampling for high grade copies, but things certainly aren't heading the direction we've gotten used to! At least for now.

Small sampling but big drop

Thanks everybody, see you back here in a month.
